Automotive Heat Shields

Automotive Nonwoven Insulation

BIT provides a wide range of nonwoven fabrics and composites to automotive OEMs and their supply chains. Our materials insulate against sound and heat, replace heavier metal or plastic parts, and add padding and structural reinforcement. We also offer damping materials that absorb and weaken vibrations that cause squeaks, rattles, and buzzing inside the cabin.

Common components we make

  • Acoustic insulation for headliners and underbody materials.
  • Heat shields for engines and EV batteries.
  • Padding, lining, and filtration parts.

Standards and speed

We engineer our materials to conform to SAE and ASTM requirements, as well as UL 94 and FMVSS 302 fireproofing standards. Our Just in Time delivery includes Kanban systems that support pull based supply for large scale production. Because of our specialized machinery and large stock of material, we handle everything from small trials to mass production.

Benefits for automotive manufacturers

  • Acoustic and thermal insulation from polyester, polypropylene, or fiberglass polyester blends.
  • Molded products, including polyester bi-component and fiberglass blends.
  • Weight saving replacements for heavier plastic or metal parts.
  • Damping materials that reduce squeak, rattle, and buzz.

Additional Information

Bouckaert Industrial Textiles engineers our materials to conform to SAE and ASTM requirements as well as UL 94 and FMVSS 302 Fireproofing standards. In addition, we have a demonstrated commitment to producing consistent and measurable quality that sets our products apart.

We work within the following standard tolerances:

Weight 4 oz./sq. yd. to 500 oz./sq. yd. (200gsm to 17,000gsm)
Thickness 0.040” to 2.5” (1mm to 64mm)
Width Up to 11.15 ft. (3.4 m)

*All our felts meet SAE quality standards. These include weight tolerances of ±10% and thickness tolerances of ±7%. We can also design to tighter tolerances if required.

Bouckaert Industrial Textiles creates needle-punch nonwovens made with many of the most prevalent materials in the automotive industry. Specific offerings include but are not limited to:

  • Polyester
  • Fiberglass
  • Polypropylene
  • Wool
  • Nylon
  • blends of any of these fibers

In addition to these primary materials, we also perform a range of secondary services to further tailor our products to your needs. Options include:

  • Laminating
  • Singeing
  • Sheeting
  • Prototyping
  • CNC Cutting
  • PSA coatings
  • Heat setting
  • Compositing

These and other secondary services, in combination with your chosen materials and finish, allow us to create products with different profiles that suit different uses.

Frequently Asked Questions
